Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning Specialists

What is recognition of prior learning?

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is a way of using your existing skills and knowledge to obtain a formal qualification.

RPL takes into account all relevant prior learning. This may be in the form of skills, knowledge and experience you may have gained in previous training, paid work, voluntary work or life experiences.

An RPL assessment can assist you in gaining Australian accreditation for a specific field you have gained competence in via formal, non-formal or in-formal learning in previous years but are yet to receive formal recognition for your efforts.

If you have gained an international qualification and require a formal Australian Qualification to increase your employability attributes or have become a skilled construction worker after years of construction employment, then an RPL assessment might be the option for you.

Upon a successful RPL assessment with Trade Academy WA, you may be eligible for a $400 subsidy from the Construction Training Fund.

We can also help you with a skills assessment for migration purposes via our RPL program.

How do you know if you are eligible for an RPL assessment?

If you have a trade or construction background with at least 4 years experience and have been in continuous employment in that particular field for the last 12 consecutive months, then you are applicable to enroll in an RPL assessment.

What is the application process?

Firstly, contact Trade Academy Western Australia via the form provided on the contact us page outlining your desire to complete an RPL assessment. Don't forget to tell us your respective trade. This will provide us with your contact details. Once your request form has been received, a qualified assessor for your trade will contact you and carry out a competency conversation based upon your current skills and knowledge. This confirms if an RPL assessment is the best option for you before any financial commitment is made. Upon completion of a positive conversation, your assessor will forward you further information that you are required to gather and complete prior to your practical skills and knowledge assessment.

How are your skills assessed?

Easily! Trade Academy Western Australia's innovative and streamlined RPL strategy is designed on an ethos of flexibility and convenience for the applicant. Our assessor will come to you on the job to assess your demonstration of the required skills and knowledge of your field. This allows you to continue to be productive for your employer without disrupting scheduled works.

Can you use RPL for migration purposes?

Yes. A successful RPL assessment will result in a nationally recognised qualification in your respective trade. This can then be used as supporting evidence to confirm your trade skills for migration purposes. Note: Trade Academy Western Australia can only give general advice regarding migration as every individuals requirements are unique. Please seek professional advice regarding your own migration needs and requirements.
